Winter Break

Winter is the coldest time of the year. It's also time for Christmas. At school the weather is very cold. Everyone brings jackets to school everyday because of how cold it is. In P.E. we can't play outside or go outside for recess because of the rainy day schedule.

Borman getting strict

So you all have probably heard about Mr. Lindebak being our discipline teacher. That’s really lame but that’s my opinion. This all started because substitutes would go to our school especially 8th grade and they said that we are very misbehaved, rude and more. Well hopefully we can behave now.

Borman Basketball

The boys and girls pulled out their first victory against Harris. The girls won 33-13. It was an awesome game. The boys won 35-27. Mr. Noble and Mrs. Tourtillott were happy with our performances in our first victory. Let's go Borman!

Galileo Testing

Galileo is coming next week so be ready and start listening to the teacher and don’t be a bad student. There is one Galileo every 4 quarters. Galileo is the 2nd most important test so start studying! Last year's Galileo, most of the students failed and in 8th grade we need to be serious to go to high school. If you don’t pass you don’t get to go to the high school you want to go. Galileo is hard and you can’t remember the answers. And don’t cheat in the Galileo test. Try your best and work hard. I like Galileo because it takes us a lot of time to finish so it makes the day go faster.

Winter Break

Winter break is going to be awesome. We get out on the 18th of December. All the 8th graders are so happy because of winter break. Winter break is after Galileo testing and it is going to be cool because it is a week of testing then we get off of school for two weeks. We get to spend time with our family and friends. We get to have holiday fun and spend time with people that we have not seen in a long time. It is cool and cold but we love the cold because it is hot in Arizona. We get back on the 4th of January.

Picture Day

Picture Day is almost here! It’s coming on the 10th or 11th of December and I can’t wait until it’s finally here. Most students love picture day, because it’s the day when the girls do their hair better than usual, the boys get their new hair cuts, and everyone gets free dress day. Picture Day may not seem like a big deal for the younger grades, but for us 8th graders it’s a big deal. The reason for this is because it’s the last picture we’ll have here at Borman and I don’t want students to look at me in the yearbook and think something else! So for you 8th graders take a good picture!

Galileo

Next week we have the Galileo. This is the second Galileo of the year so we will only have two left for the rest of the year. The teachers are freaking out and are trying to teach us stuff fast and it is getting annoying. We think that district should cancel the Galileo all together. The other thing that makes me mad is that the teachers say that the Galileo is 60% of your grade like every time we almost have the Galileo.

Borman Versus Downs

Today the girls and boys basketball teams are having a home game against Downs. The last game against Harris, Borman was victorious and were supported by family and friends so come out and support your team. The girls will be having their game on the outside courts and the boys will be inside. We hope you’ll come out to support us, we can use all of your school spirit. The game starts at 4:30, be there!

Weather

Today, the weather is really weird. It is all cloudy and we're pretty sure it’s going to rain. It is usually very hot and dry and windy. But, since last night it has been very cloudy and freezing. The weatherman said that, “there is a 50% chance that it is going to rain.”

Basketball Game

We Want Change

Blah
Well, we’re supposed to write an article about something that has happened or will happen in school. The thing is that school this year is very very boring. No offense. We totally hate it. So, many students move to other schools in the district since they made Borman preK-8th , and now there is only four 8th grade classes at Borman Elementary. That doesn’t sound right. Anyways now we don’t even enjoy school. Another thing we had two electives a day and every single day. We hate Borman. Though what can we do?

Yay! Our Answer!
We need someone to step in and take charge and make Borman cool again. Someone who will see our point of view. They could be strict and BuhDazzleing at the same time. Someone like that would make Borman more interesting and fun. More people would want to come and join the learning environment. Our school is dull compared to the other learning educational schools. We need a CHANGE for our kids!

Yoselin, Nelson, Dayanara

Borman

What can I describe to you about Frank Borman Elementary School? Anyone would love to come to Borman. It’s probably a wish come true or something. I have been here since 6th grade and it’s been really fun and I’ve seen a lot and been through a lot so you can basically say I have a lot of experience at this school. The last two years were the best years of my life. This year isn’t all that but its alright. School doesn’t always have to be fun.

Basketball at Borman

Basketball tryouts have been going on since last week. Neither the guy's nor the girl’s team has been made yet. There are a lot of guys going for basketball this year, but not as many girls. Boy tryouts are being held at the gym. [That's not fair] for us because our tryouts are out in the courts. Our coaches are Ms.Tourtillott and Ms.Clark. Some of the eighth grade girls are Sierra, Tierra, Viviana, and Kassandra. We’ll hopefully have a good team and win all the games. Well, at least most of them.

Kassandra

Role Models

It is hard for us eighth graders to be role models. Little kids sometimes copy the bad not the good even if we tell them to be good. Some little kids look up to gangsters because of media or older family members who are in a gang. Violence in their neighborhood effects their behavior and actions in class. We can’t compete with superheroes or gangsters that kids consider role models.

Opinion: Borman's Best Couple

Best Couple

Our best couple at Borman is Maritza and Nelson. They’re the cutest couple ever. You always see them together at lunch. Maritza is the loud one and Nelson is the shy one. It’s really cute. They’re the best couple on campus.

Fashion at Borman

The fashion at Borman is pretty cool. The kind of shoes students wear are vans, Jordans and Nikes. They like the popular type of shoes. Many people also wear polo shoes or coach shoes which are pretty nice but Jordans, Nikes, and vans are a little bit better!

Girl's Soccer Championship

A few weeks ago the girls soccer team played against Glen L. Downs for the championship. The girls soccer team played a excellent game as they out scored the other team and won against Glen L. Downs. The score was 4-1. The Borman girls coaches are Ms. Towne and Ms. Clark. They were extremely proud of every single one of the players.

Basketball Tryouts

Basketball tryouts will be on November 9, 2009. We will meet in the gym at 3:15 with Mr. Noble. Be sure to try hard and be ready to run. Mr. Noble wants people who try hard in class and have good grades. Good luck and ready to try hard.

Drama at Borman

Well here at Borman there is a lot of drama because of people disliking each other. Even though it's not easy to drop the drama you should try honestly, but then again when the other person you're fighting with keeps on going the problem just gets bigger and bigger. As knowing myself I don’t like to drop things until they drop it. I'm sure there are other people like me and I’ve seen plenty of fights this year. Fighting is another way drama is solved but it is not the best way. This is our school that we have to go every day and when there are rumors or things like that going on about you you're not going to want to go. Even if they are true those are your personal issues so why tell everyone else. So my last word is to stop putting other people down just to extend your own self-esteem.

Opinion: School Uniforms

Nobody likes school uniforms. Even some parents don’t like uniforms. Mostly at every school in Phoenix has this very ugly, unstylish, dull uniform. I think this school could be much better if we didn’t have to wear uniforms. It could express everybody’s original style and we wouldn’t be so bad at this school if we didn’t have uniforms. I also think that wearing uniforms holds all of our feelings inside our minds, because we have these horrible uniforms. I understand that it protects against gang violence, but since this school started have we ever had a gang related argument? No! We haven’t! Another reason why uniforms are lame is because of the colors. The colors are horrible! These principals need to put in some bright colors, not everybody likes these lame, dull, disliked colors! Put some yellow in them, put some bright orange in here!! We can even try hot pink!

Soccer

At Borman we had soccer. It was the coolest sport ever! Our coaches were Ms. Towne and Ms. Clark. We were undefeated! Playoffs were pretty hard, but we tried so hard to get in first place and that’s why we got in first place and to celebrate we went to Peter Piper Pizza!!

The Borman food fight

Last month Borman had a food fight. Some of the people in the 8th grade didn’t even know about the food fight. When all the 8th grade classes got in the cafeteria and sat down, somebody yelled “food fight!”, and everybody stared throwing food. The food fight didn’t last more than 5 seconds before everybody ran outside, so they wouldn’t get caught. The principal and the vice principal held some of the people from the cafeteria outside on the benches to ask questions. After they let us go back to class are principal Dr.Walder came in every 8th grade class and told us that we lost all of the fun activities, and privileges for the year. She said we could earn them back but it would take a lot of time to that. She also said that if we have another mishap then our 8th grade promotion ceremony would be canceled.
-Tierra

Last month Borman had a food fight. During seventh and eighth grade lunch the eighth graders decided to have a food fight. In the middle of our lunch time some people yelled “food fight” and mostly everyone started throwing food. The food fight only lasted for about 5 or 10 seconds, so it wasn’t that long. After they threw food everyone started running outside. Most of the student clothes were all messed up, and most of them didn’t even throw food. After the food fight was said and done, teachers and principles started coming to see what was the mishap was, and Ms. Schoolcraft was taking students and sitting them down on the bleachers to ask them questions. Most students that she sat down thought they were in trouble for something they did not do. After they let us go back to class Dr. Walder came to every eighth grade class and talked to us about it, and saying that that there will be consequences for this mishap. The next day teachers got letters from Dr. Walder saying that some of our field trips will be canceled, and possibly the ceremony. We can earn back these privileges back if we earn it.

Soccer

This year is my first year at Borman, and I found out that they only had three sports this year. So I decided to try out for all them. The first sport was soccer. When I tried out I didn’t really think that I was going to make it but I did! Well now the season is over but while I was on the team it was awesome. Plus we won the championship with out losing a game the whole season! I was super happy.

Stolen Drinks

Students at Borman stole sodas from the cola truck and some energy drinks. I don’t even know how the students at Borman got it open but they did an now we are not going to have field trips and the principal said that the guy has to pay all the money that was worth of all the energy drinks.

Volleyball

I was in volleyball for 6th and 7th grade. It was awesome. We had Mr. Brown as our coach. He was a really good coach. We only lost like 2 games. We would play games at other schools and sometimes here at Borman. But this year we don’t have volleyball. I don’t know why though. When we found out that there wasn’t going to be any volleyball this year, we flipped out. But I wish that there was volleyball.

Katherine

Last year, we had volleyball and it was a lot of fun. The 6th and 7th grade volleyball team at Borman was pretty good. We would do a lot of teamwork. It was a lot of fun and the coach Mr. Brown was a very good coach. The bad thing is that there is no volleyball this year.

Maria

Stolen energy drinks

Last quarter a group of students decided to steal energy drinks, while no one was looking on Thursday after school at 1:45pm. The next day the teachers on purpose left another COCA~COLA truck open to see if the students would make the same mistake. They were smart enough not to do it again. The students learned the lesson not to violate private property.

Gender Fight

The biggest thing that happened last month was a gender fight, when a boy and a girl fight. The girl and the boy started to fight and the boy got all serious. They started to throw punches at each other so the boy started to cry. The moral of this story is that gender fights end up being violent!

ZELDA

Food Fight

There was a cool food fight. There were seventh and eighth graders. It was at the cafeteria. It happened in the first quarter. Some eighth grader started it.Everybody got in trouble and we couldn’t leave the cafeteria. The principal was mad it looked like she cared.
